Miata reddit.

A Miata is always going to be a fun car. That said, an automatic is going to be heavier, slower, and make you feel less a part of the process, even with paddle shifters. There's also the maintenance down the road. A manual Miata gearbox is going to need very little but an oil change every now and then, something even an amateur mechanic can do.

As such, this subreddit frequently sees the same question: "I have $xxxx budget, what Miata should I buy?" A dedicated post to point people to is useful, so here it is: The Generations There have been three generations of Miata so far, and they are referred to by their chassis code ( NA, NB, NC) or by (M1,M2,M3)..

NC1 Miata, or Saturn Sky Redline. I'm looking for a roadster drivers car. I'm down to a manual NC1 Miata or Sky redline. This will be my third car for weekends and road trips with me and my wife. Maybe some auto cross in the future but not sure. Not looking to do a ton of mods to it, It will probably be stock, maybe some suspension upgrades ...Compared to a Miata though, it’s a bit more complicated. The Miata is up front and straight forward. The only hard part is transmission removal and the cam angle sensor. The boxster general maintenance is easy enough, but some things are a little more complex. But that’s just the nature of a mid engine car. Driving an NA/NB after driving a modern car makes you realize that the Miata is a wimpy, flexy, rattly little tin can. There's no way around it; old Miata's were designed to old safety standards and it really shows. As far as concerns… trees aren't the problem. The scary part is cell phones, dementia patients, road rage, and folks who ...Miatas/MX-5's are not Crash tested and insurance can be very costly. They are not dangerous cars, but they are also not made to withstand crashes. These cars are designed for driving, not crashing. I would be against any of my kids having one as a daily driver, if they had less than 5 yrs experience behind the wheel.

Now if it comes to tunability then you’re gonna want to look more into the ND1s. I don’t believe many true power-adders or tunes have come out for the ND2 yet, whereas the ND1 has Edelbrock supercharger kits and Flyin’ Miata has turbo kits available. These roughly put the power anywhere from 170 whp- 220 whp depending on the tune you get.Compared to my stock 01 Miata the fiesta is honestly the better drivers car. Less body roll, sharper turn in, less understeer, and a bit quicker. I was shocked by how well it handled. The GTI, Mini, and SI all have a much nicer more refined interior and better ride. The Fiesta is easily the most hardcore of the bunch.A miata is a terrible first car; however, it's a great second car. You're probably going to wreck your first car, maybe your second one too, and as an inexperienced driver an NA/NB miata's lack of traction/stability control and ABS (some have ABS, some dont), along with it's poor safety compared to modern cars make it a terrible first car.

But anyone with that kind of money isn't posting these questions on reddit. 95% of the kids who think they are upgrading their Miata suspensions wind up with coilover setups costing $500-800 that may look "cool" and lower the car, but result in a horrendous ride, an unbalanced chassis, unpredictable handling, and such poor wheel control that ...

The difference of the two car: Tuned GTI is faster than the Miata. I know the miata is much lighter but to be honest I did not feel much. The power of the GTI makes it up in the straight, and in the corner the stock miata is really soft (GTI has a thicker RSB) and that makes you think it is heavier than it is, but the limit is much higher than ...The MSM makes about 150 to the wheels stock. The 2019 Miata makes nearly 170 to the wheels stock. I say this as an MSM owner, there is no reason to get an MSM aside from the desire to own a relatively rare car. Any NA/NB with a …I was also choosing between a base ND2 or NC2 PRHT, but the PRHT's are in the mid-$20k (CDN pesos) versus ~$33k for a new ND2. Even early NC1's are starting to hit the low-$20k mark which is insane to me. If I do come across a nice and cheap NC1/NC2, I might snatch it up, but I put down a deposit for an ND2. 2.The aluminum block of the LS line of engines also means the weight distribution stays closer to the original. The transmission and driveshaft add some more weight, themselves, but these are more centered so the weight is not as much of a hindrance. There are some very impressive LS-based Miatas out there.

prht's are 3 decibels quieter which isnt a really big difference over soft top. ps if you have a manual transmission nc, you can reduce cabin noise by deleting the sound tube. automatics are even quieter because they turn at 2000rpm on the freeway instead of 3500rpm. removable hard tops (for soft top miata) costs 3000$.

For reference, the original 1989 base Miata was about $33,600 in today's money, whereas the vastly superior in nearly every way 2023 Miata Sport starts at $28k. So in real terms the Miata today is actually significantly cheaper than it was at launch, one of the few cars where this is the case.100% This. People who actually are involved in racing know exactly what that Miata roll is all about. I don't want to come off as an ass here, but the Miata's body roll isn't about going fast or being racy. It's all about making the car feel faster while driving slow, this is a big reason why the car is described as playful in everyday driving.Reddit iOS Reddit Android Reddit Premium About Reddit Advertise Blog Careers Press. ... As much as I hate to be a pessimist, I'm not sure a turbo is anywhere close to the horizon. Plenty of market in NA/NB/NC for FM as well, so they don't exactly have to chase after a ND2 turbo for more revenue. : (. If Keith & Team get an ND2 turbo I will fly out to Colorado and kiss that man. Not sure, I feel like I saw forums of Flyin' Miata ...Have a budget of around 6-7k (8-9k for a really nice one) and just wait until the right car comes along. And when it does, jump in it asap. 2. stepdad_randy • Midnight Blue • 1 yr. ago. No one should pay 8k for an NA miata, unless it has less than 50k miles. These are not super rare sports cars. TLDR: for street driven daily car, probably not worth it. Minimum cost for entry is probably about $1,000 and comes with various headaches. $500 for a set of new shocks might be money better spent. Subjective. I'd say, for a daily driven Miata which is not tracked, a decent coilover set is not worth the expense.Test drove a 2019 86 and a 2020 Miata RF, bought a 2020 86. To me, the 86 feels more balanced on curves than the Miata. Going up a hill on a curvy road, the Miata felt very sluggish. Granted, this was with the A/T (on both cars). But the Toyota responded better. The Miata also felt very tiny on the road and has a very compact interior. The aluminum block of the LS line of engines also means the weight distribution stays closer to the original. The Miata has a lot less area to prep and paint as the car is small and a convertible, otherwise I could just ask others who have had paint jobs locally. I realize local rates will vary by supply and demand, which is the primary reason why I ask for a price range. Thanks. 22 comments. Add a Comment.

My options are pay $1000 to put a new crank in an engine with 140,000 miles or pay $550 for an imported engine from Japan with only 50,000 miles on it. It, especially with the 3.0L, is one of the few on this list that is legitimately quick, with good power and actual torque that's usable everywhere. Paired to its low weight, the engine feels "big," and the car accelerates at any rpm.
